The ‘joy of making’ at RMHA
There was a feeling of anticipation and excitement amongst the younger residents at RMHA on Friday Morning. Earlier in the week four large boxes arrived at the House, a gift to RMHA from the team at Imaginz, to be used in the School. Patiently the little students had waited to discover what these boxes contained and on Friday morning Suzy Roper and Ken Holt from Imaginz arrived to unveil the contents – life size building blocks to build whatever their imaginations could think of!
The RMHA children were the some of the first children in New Zealand to play with Imaginz, an indoor or outdoor construction kit which has been two years in the making. As soon as Suzy opened the boxes and gave a brief demonstration the RMHA children were keen to get stuck in straight away. It wasn’t long before we could see the formation of a ‘pie shop’ - as we were kindly informed by the little builders - as well as a bridge and a plane.
As with all the children that stay at RMHA, the children on Friday have been going through a very difficult time lately with some being in and out of hospital on their own medical journey or others being there to support a sibling who may be in the National Children Hospital. The thoughtfulness of Imaginz brought a welcomed distraction to the children, where they could forget their worries for a while and simply focus on having fun with their fellow class mates.
