Mary Poppins
Morris Foster and his ten year old daughter Taylor from Palmerston North have been through an amazing medical journey together. Taylor’s life-saving kidney transplant in June this year came from her Dad Morris, and he has been living with her at Ronald McDonald House Auckland for her recovery period, as well as the months of tests preceding.
Ronald McDonald House Auckland has been, in Morris’s words “a home away from home” for them for a significant chapter in their lives. Morris says with heartfelt gravitas “I just cannot imagine what we would have done without this place. I don’t know how anyone would do it”.
As well as the support which removes the financial burden of accommodation costs, the little things have made a difference to their journey. Outings mean a treat for Taylor and her Dad. It means a break from the hospital site which is rejuvenating. So when City Life gifted them along with Taylors best friend in the House Jamie (who is awaiting a kidney transplant herself) and Jamie’s mother, a night out with dinner first and then to see the musical Mary Poppins, they were absolutely thrilled!
And the experience completely lived up to their anticipation as Morris explains: “It was just awesome, such a good time. The girls are still buzzing today. The show was so well done and the dinner was really nice.”
Young Taylor was so excited about her huge bowl of spaghetti for dinner and then topped off with her ice cream
which was bought to her in a glass she could eat made out of ice!
Ronald McDonald House Auckland’s Chief Executive Officer Wayne Howett shared a few words:
“Being able to put aside their worries for a few hours and simply have fun can mean the world to our families.
Thanks to City Life and the wonderful evening they organised, Morris and Taylor as well as the other RMHA families
were able to do just that.

the challenges our families maybe facing, with the support of our friends like City Life Hotel, together we can
provide our families with memorable moments that stay with them long after they have left House.”
